Fire: Screams save 30 iron refinery workers

BUKIT MERTAJAM 27 Nov:Quick action to notify an employee yell fire in a factory in Industrial Estate Oil here managed to save the lives of 30 workers of the plant.

Two Senior Fire Officer of Fire and Rescue Station Georgetown, Khalid Hamid told reporters that the first engine arrived at the factory seven minutes after receiving the call and then, two drums containing used oil is burned.

He said firefighters managed to contain the fire from spreading to a nearby factory within 15 minutes, and the fire extinguished half an hour later.

He said that 12 members of the Georgetown Fire Station and City PERDA 20 volunteers assisted engaged in firefighting operations .

Hamid said the cause of the incident and the loss is still under investigation , but there were no injuries or casualties reported . - BERNAMA
